Can playing wind instruments (such as the flute or recorder) help asthma suffers?
Most Definitely! Positive expiratory pressure is created. The airways are propped open during exhalation preventing dynamic airway collapse. During an asthmatic episode, inhaling is not the "initial" problem. Its exhaling that becomes difficult due to airway collapse.
Playing a wind instrument is a fantastic way to exercise your airways, and just as eg4.....stated, "help build lung capacity"!
