My finger hurts when I practice Flute?!?
Okay, what happens, is sometimes (not always) when I practice flute, my left hand gets sore right below my pointer finger. It gets reddish/pink and looks shiny and is soft and weird!!! This happens after I practice for about 20-40 minutes. It is really sore, and goes away after about 5 minutes if I take a break from practicing, but it gets annoying.

PS the spot that hurts is about the size of a dime, and is at the spot where my pointer finger meets my palm.
And I don't think I am griping the flute to hard, because it is on my palm, not fingers, which is what you hold the flute with!
I forgot to say that I have been playing for 6 years, so it isn't a 'getting used to' thing.
I am a profesional flutist and teacher since 1971, and would advise you AGAINST getting a Bo-Pep - the are rock-hard, tend to slide, and will scratch your flute. You can go into and drug store and go into the aisle where they seel things for bad FEET - and get some moleskin, sticky-backed foam, or some kinds of corn plasters or anti-rub pads, Stick one of these where you support the flute, adn see if it helps. You should always have both hands in balnace ergonomically, so stick on where yo support the flute with your RH, too.
You can look for a THUMBPORT - it will make your RH more stable, and take stress of your left. See Fluteworld for these.
As an expert in Repetion Stress Injuries and Cumulative Trauma d Disorders, I have made many orthotic devices fro flutists who are suffering. However, I would have to SEE you to advise anything. If this is ongoing and sever, you need to see a LOCAL teacher who can assess your biomechanics and advise about what can help you. Having any radiating pain into the palm is not good. This sounds random, but is important - do you lower teeth hurt, or feel pressure, or looseness? That is clearly a pressure problem, but again, must be SEEM by a teacher who is particularly aware of thses problems, and has studied how to fix them.
