My 7 year old needs a flute for school..?

All I know is that my son brought a paper from school saying he needed a flute. I remember back when I was attending school they would lend us the flutes, we didn't have to buy them.

I am a certified music teacher, since 1971 - and a professional flutist. The picture you sent is NOT a flute - it is an alto recorder. If your child needs a RECORDER - this is not the right one - they need a soprano.

Seven is very young to start the FLUTE - as in , BAND. In most school districts, kids do not start until fourth grade. If she really needs a FLUTE, then, because she is small, you should get a Jupiter Prodigy - it has a re-curved head joint, like a candy-cane, which makes it easier to hold, and the keys have assistance buttons. Keys that very young players do NOT need are eliminated.
The third possibility -and this is SLIM - is that she needs a FIFE - and Yamaha makes a good fife, too. Plastic, beige - many flute teachers start little kids on fife. But I would BET that what her teacher really wants her to get is a soprano recorder. please check, and then write back - I will watch for your response.
