Which flute brand should I buy?

I have been playing for about 7 years on a Gemeinhardt flute. It recently broke adn now it needs replacing. I dislike armstrong very much and I am not a huge fan of yamaha. My price range is under $600. I'd rather not buy a student flute, I would like to move up in the world of flutes but my flute must be in C. It's been difficult looking for a new flute, and from what I've heard I should stay away from Jupiters....so if you have any ideas please tell me!

Apparently, so are getting a lot of bad advice, or have been told things by people who own good instruments that are not in good adjustment. A *Mercedes* that does not start is a piece of junk! Within your budget, you should be able to find USED Yamaha or Jupiter Flutes that are FAR better than the Gemmie you have been playing. Maybe a Jupiter 611 - silver head, plated body. Or a Yamaha in the 300 series? Look for Emersons, too - often overlooked. Or a good Pearl. Yes, I agree with you about Armstrong. But the Above brands should work well for you. Google for Jen Cluff (not me!) and read her EXCELLENT articles about your question. Good luck with your flute shopping!
