What brand of flute would you recommend if I am interested in buying an intermediate or better flute?
I'm still playing on my beginner flute, and it's ok, but i've had a few issues with it and it gets really gross looking unless its cleaned often. I'm looking to upgrade now that i'm a more developed player and need some ideas for research. The most I think my parents would spend is probably between $2000-2500. Thanks!
Go to www.jennifercluff.com and read her excellent article about flute shopping. Also browse the flutes at www.fluteworld.com - all the brand there are good EXCEPT Gemeinhardt - they are only there because on stubborn non-flutist band directors who insist that their students get this left-in-the-dust brand. IF you parents are going to spend this much, then there are many fine instruments that will suit you well - the current best recommendation from most respected flute teachers in the DiZhao - a name that non-flutists have never heard of, but we professional flutist are in love with!
Of course, your parents can easily spend LESS - and get you lessons with a TOP flute teacher. The quality of the instruction, and therefore the eventual quality of the player, is far more critical than the flute. It's the player, not the horn.
